dana 30 regear question

Im about to regear the dana 30 on my 1990 jeep xj to 4.56. Do i need to shave down the carrier pin to get it around the gears? i had to do this on my rear axle, its a chrysler 8.25. all help appreciated thx!

On the 30, no. The 30 doesn't use a c-clip, the hub/bearings hold the shafts in place.
The 8.25, yes. But don't shave the pin, grind one ring gear tooth instead. You'll be nowhere near the contact patch after grinding. Assuming the gear install is worth a crap.
