I've got a 9"/HP44 sitting in the garage. The ZJ factory Dana 30 front has a tone ring on the ends of the axle shafts with a speed sensor. I assume it is for ABS.

Here's my questions:
If I put in the HP44, will I need to get that tone ring put on the HP44 shafts?
If I do not, will the ABS light stay on?
If the ABS light is on, will it pass inspection?

If you have done this swap before, please let me know as I will have many more questions.

What size tires do you plan on running? I did the 44 swap in my XJ, same basic front suspension, and looking back on it I would have kept the 30 or gone to a 60.

Right now I have 33s, I plan on going to 35s or 36s. I am swapping the rear to a 31 spline 9 inch as well to get rid of the Dana 35 rear. The 9" and HP44 came are a matched set. I calculated that with 35s, I'll regear the axles to 4.56 to get 2000rpm on the highway at 65mph.
Did your XJ Dana 30 front have ABS?

No abs. I would not go that route for 35's. THe alloy shafts for the 30 can hold up to the 35's. I broke my 44 with 36 IROC's and had to go with alloy shafts. Just my .02.

yeah i'm building a 9" for the rear of mine also with 4.56 and posi...i was also wondering about the 44 in the front idea with the abs...

couldn't you just change the knuckles back if you wanted to keep the abs???

i know the ball joints might not be the same size but i thought they were...
