Does anyone know of a kit that would allow me to use cables instead of linkage for my 300?

i'm putting in a NV4500 and that is going to mess up where the shifters come through the body. i'd rather not cut big holes in the body. The tranny isn't competely in yet, so i may not need it, i'm just checking availability.

thanks

brian

Last cable shifters I did I home brewed.
Ordered cables from Grainger or Mcmaster Carr, cant remember which at the moment.

had less than $150 in them including handles and all.

Sadly that rig is 3 owners gone now and I dont have any pics left but it look into it.

300

i just googled it and found the northwest fab site.

it sells for about $280.00- didn't want to pay that much in less i have to...(read...no other choice)

thanks for your replies...

Mudpro metalworks cut me a bracket that attaches with longer bolts through the front seal housing, the cables come around from behind, havent made the attachment from the cable to the rail yet, but mud will sell you the brackets. I also had him make a box to house circle track twin sticks for a shift box. The cables can be had from surplus center. If your not afraid to fab a little, it's not very expensive.

I looked after posting and cant findd any receipts, but I am 99% sure I ordered them from Mcmaster Carr because I remember them shipping to our warehouse, and Grainger I would have picked up.

They were the cables, adjustable mounting nuts and rod ends that I linked up with a mini clevis.
I home made ghetto shifters out of broken wrenches or some suchc.

IIRC Rich was the one who turned me on to the cables, and Lord knows as detailed as all his builds are he probably would have part #s, pictures and metallurgy analysis.

i know you said this was a "just in case" b/c of clearance problems, but for what its worth, im running a dodge nv4500 with a 300, and had no problems with my twistick clearing. of course this is in a yj, im sure somewhat different than your cj.

cables

i'm hoping to get more info in the next few days..it's going to be tight in there. we still have to move the tranny a little. i had to remove my drivers side exhaust pipe to make room for the slave cylinder..
we should be able to get tranny mated to the 302, so i'll know more soon..

thanks for the replies..i don't have the tools or skills to fab anything like that...i'd like to though...

we'll see..

thanks again for the replies..

what engine are you running?

cable

I have been looking at north west fabs kit also brian. I wanted to close up the shifter hole in the floor board to cut down on the heat coming up from the exhaust. Like you dont wanna drop 300 bucks though.
what's up buddy! i think i'm going to try and run a single exhaust and have some heat deflectors made up. you can cook eggs on my floorboards..

i've been on Mud's website. i didn't see the shifters (could have missed them). ..how did you get them to make the shifters to your specs?
does this set up shift easily?

They aren't on the site, if you call him and tell him you want the cable shifter brackets for a dana 300, he should know what your talkin about. The shifters themselves came from speedway motors, they have that version and a cast economy version. I'll look the part numbers up tonight.

XJ, thanks for the help!

Tom, i also checked on Pirate. they have a long thread on 300 cable shifters...i'm thinking if i get backed into that corner, i'm going to try and do it myself, using this thread and Pirates...

i just don't want to spend $300. on a prefabbed one!!
