I didn't listen very well when people told me not to put 35's on my TJ unless I up grade to a strong rear axle. I can say on the bright side it didn't break an axle. It just strpped all the teeth off the spider gears. Then driving home from Stuarts Farm it started spitting the teeth out the rear cover which made it loose all its gear oil and took out the pinion bearing so basically the whole axle is shot.
Hey on the bright side I have some Dana 35 axles for sale!!!!!!

if its not the DD, then weld up the spiders and wheel til the axles break. Then you will have to worry about them coming out on the way out of the woods.

That is what I had intended on doing until I had to drive it 90 miles to get it home from down by charlotte. By the time I got home it was spitting gears out the back and the pinion bearing was toast.

Had the same thing happen with my 8.25 and 34" ltb's on the trail. Pulled the ready welder out, welded the hole up in the diff cover then welded the entire carrier solid. It's held strong for countless trail miles since.
Sucks to see you're having more axle problems...but you've got to pay to play--especially when you drive a jeep.

Hey, were you the one in the recently lifted green jeep with the screaming kids in back?

Yeah that was me! lol

Thanks for the guided tour we had a blast down there, even the kids got used to it and started having fun. It was the first time I had taken them and they didn't know what to expect.

Yeah I would like to blame Jeep for this except for the fact I knew I had the week dana 35 in it. But I decided to try and show off and climb a hill that I knew would be hard on it. And of course being that it is a four cyclinder I am full throttle or no throttle trying to make it go places it probably shouldn't.

When I put the knew tires on I said I was going to tread lightly until I upgraded the rear axle, problem was what I did yesturday would not be classified as treading lightly. But hey on the bright side I did make it 90% the way up and if I hadn't broke I would made it all the way. But I guess that is the same as saying if frogs had wings they wouldn't bump their arse when they hopped. :driver:

If your looking to put another D35 back in it for now I will have one with 3.73 gears and a limited slip out of a 98 TJ.
