Just got done putting a newer 231 with sye in my buddys yj. Built a rear drive shaft and when its bolted to the pinion yoke there is side to side play in the ujoint. It has a new joint, and i also tried the joint that was in the oem dshaft. I didnt recall if it had play before, but im sure it wouldnt have lasted too long. the straps are def tight. There is just a little play where the tabs hold the caps on the yoke. Anyone else ever experience this?

From my experience, it should have no play side to side. Sometimes they will get worn out from loose straps or u-bolts. The one in my jeep is the same way, just a different rear.

Im going to try a new pair of straps, and chk to make sure the tabs arent bent out. If that dont work, its gettin tacked in place until the 8.8 goes in. Thanks

Some YJs had a 1330 joint at the axle end. It is a little wider than a 1310 but uses the same size caps. It probably would not come up in a parts store computer as an option but it can be had. You can get a 1310/1330 conversion joint from spicer, advance auto, autozone, etc. This is assuming that you have a 1310 joint in the base of the new CV shaft.

I can't remember the part number off the top of my head but I can find it if you need it. Hope that helps.

X2, Referred to as A buddy, or Bastard joint, depending on your upbringing.

Yeah it was just the tabs that hold the joint. I tapped on them with a hammer and got it going! Thanks guys!
