Ok I guess this question has been asked a 1000 times but what do you think of a Super 35 kit with 33" thornbirds. Will it hold up. I'm not a hardcore wheeler, just a weekend worrier and thats only on the rocks. NO MUD.

Thornbirds AND a Dana 35? wow, good luck...

A dana 35 is like a turd. You can keep polishing it but in the end you still have a turd.

Ya but so are the turdbirds. I wonder if you put 2 turds together, would anybody give 2 :poop:??

I would do an 8.8 swap or find a d44, please don't waste your money on a d35 or the thornbirds. You will not be happy with the results if you do.

Good luck.

I'm getting the thorntirds at a good price. Just need something to get by with right now. 33/10.5 with 95% tread for $325. Hard to stand that up. Will it be fine on the road until I can build an axle? I have an automatic trans. and drive like gramdma.

35

probably no one else will agree, but i would say you should be fine. until a couple weeks ago i was running 34"swampers with stock dana 35. i beat it up all the time, did ure cross race, other events, tellico, etc, etc. never had a problem. i was running stock rims though with little offset compared to a aftermarket rim which basically widens your axle width to weight ratio. for the money though you might be better with the 44 or 8.8 because those rebuild kits are expensive. run it til it breaks and keep a extra shaft, then upgrade or have a new axle waiting to go in. just my opinion. good luck!

44

you should be able to find one on here around $500 or so, sometimes 200, just depends on the shape its in. depending on what vehicle it came off of you will need to weld new spring perches on the axle. spring perches $20 an axle

44

depends on what the new axle comes off of. some of them you can use existing steering linkages and keep your brakes. all depends on what it comes off of. look under parts for sale, there are a bunch of d44 for sale right now. to me that makes way more sense to get a 44 or 8.8 and spend a little making it work than to upgrade the shafts, because you still end up with a d35. hope this helps. there are some others on here that are alot more knowledgeable about the details than i am, i just know i beat up a d35 for the past 4 years and only had to replace a axle seal once.

If your easy on the skinny pedal and only running 33's your D35 should last you a while. I have been wheeling mine now for a few years with 33's and have only broken 2 shafts. Now when I had my YJ I with the 35 and a locker I broke shafts all the time. I guess its luck of the draw. If are only a weekend warrior and dont really beat on the jeep, just go pull a couple of spare shafts to get you buy till you can build a better axle. The super 35 kit is a waste of money.

once you pay for a few extra shafts and the fluid and the absolute headache of replacing them on the trail its just going to be cheaper and less of a pain to find a 44 for 250 and switch it in. just my opinion
