Rear Dana 44 in a TJ. Wheel bearing and seal failed at thanksgiving. Got home last night and wheel well and back of tire was full of grease again. Getting ready to pull shaft. What could cause this to fail so quickly? Bent shaft stressing the bearing?

bent axle housing , bent shaft , lock ring not pressed on all the way up to the bearing
could cause that
is it the short side on long side axle????????

It's the short side. I'm pretty sure the shafts aren't swapped. I'll measure them when I pull it apart. Hopefully it's just the retainer plate being bowed a little.

if it is the shaft i have a stock short side shaft with good used retainer plate & new timken bearing & seal 0 miles
i will take $65 for it ( i have $40 in the set 10 bearing & seal )

I'll let you know, we talked about this same thing at thanksgiving lol. I pulled it apart and the retainer plate was bowed out so I think the shaft must have an issue that beats it out. I flattened it out and RTVed the seal. I'm gonna check it again in a few days and if that plate is bowed out again I'll get that shaft from you. Thanks man.

Ok here we go again. Replaced shaft with another one with new seal and bearing. 2 months later it's leaking again. Retainer plate us bowed out again. There has to be something pushing outward on the shaft to cause this. Could something be wrong with the locker? Sometimes when taking off from a stoplight something bangs really hard in drivers rear and almost jerks me across lanes. Thought it was normal Detroit locker behavior but maybe not? This is getting very annoying.
