Ok guys i have a question, Im thinking about just welding up the side gears in my front carrier reason being is i will get a front locker later on, and dont wanna have to get a new carrier also... my rig is a 87 samurai on scout dana's with 5.13's ... im just wondering by not welding the entire carrier up will it put to much pressure on the carrier and spider gears.... thanks in advance guys

most of the time i have seen the spiders welded together AND to the carrier. it would seem to me that just welding the spiders together would not be strong enough, but i can't say that on personal experience. research only. you can also weld up individual teeth in the spiders:

that aside, unless you have hydro assist or better, it will be VERY hard to steer without the auto-unlocking feature of an automatic locker.
but im sure youve considered that

thanks! yes i know the steering is going to be tough... i was asking about welding up the individual teeth on the side gears... that way later on i can take them out when i get a locker....
