WTF????????? Never heard of it. What did it come in? How strong is it? Whats it worth? Parts hard to find? Would it be worth getting to have something to start a build with?Thanx.

I believe that most of these came in M715s. From my understanding they are fairly weak, not much stronger than an HD44 (axle shaft wise), funky lug pattern (something like 6 on 7.25?), and drum brakes. The closed knuckle 70s from the tractors are more desirable, with the 35 spline shafts all the way through. Even the Dodge closed knuckle 70s are drum brakes, and 16 spline coarse splined axles.

About on par with a stock dana 44 as far as stregth, uses what is called tracta style joints in the closed knuckle, course splined and drum brakes. not really and aftermarket support that I know of

If they are out of an M715 they use U-joints, not tracta FWIW.

Really? Never seen a closed knuckle axle that used u-joints...

So, if the 715s did not in fact use the tracta's... what's he got?

If the closed knuckle 60 doesn't have that bastard 715 lug pattern, what else did they come in?

Not sure what he has. The only closed knuckle 60 that I have experience with is from the M715.

go to m715zone.com and go the manuals section. There is an exploded view of the front axle and u-joint.

I think you need to join to see the manuals.

I ran a 60 and 70 from a 715 in my rig forever with good luck locked front and rear w/ 44s. I did always carry spares though because of everyones horror stories. I was always breaking t-cases. The drum brakes arent that bad if you adjust them right but there not that good either. They are geared 5.87 and use 14 series u-joints. If you need any more info just holla

SOME older trucks(ford) ran a closed knuckle 60..AKA a spicer 60...stay away from them..you can't get any gearsets for them

You can get gear sets for them, but the biggest down falls are the axle tubes bend up easily, and the shafts are about as string as 44 shafts. Dodge, International, Jeep j trucks, including the 715, and the early ford hi boys all used closed knuckle 60's. They break easy.

International never used a D60 front. They did however use a D70 front (drum brake, closed knuckle) in some 1-ton and 3/4-ton trucks. CK D70 fronts were usually paired with Spicer RA-15 rears.
