Hey guys I just picked up a Dana 70-1u on Saturday. I started tearing down/cleaning up the axle after work today. I Tom the rear drums off and there is a huge gap Between the rear hub and where the backing plates bolt up. Now if I'm not mistaken ( please correct me if I'm wrong) but if I get a kit to switch over to disks won't he rear caliper mounts bolt up where the backing plates go? How do I keep the hubs mounted? Any way to fill that gap?

All help will be appreciated!

I've done a 70-1SU before. No bolt-on bracket for it. You need this: http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/WELD35.html

Get some '77 K-20 calipers/rotors/pads, and roll with it. That's all you need. It's pretty straight forward.

Put the rotor on the wheel hub, put the caliper/pad on the rotor, bolt the brake bracket to the bracket, tack it up, take everything apart, do final welding, bolt everything back together.

It will look like this (minus the wheel spacer):

Sweet thanks man you have any pics of the rear

Rear of what? The axle?

The back of the brakes

The problem is that there's too much gap on most dana 70 axles to bolt up. That's why my kit includes a weld on bracket. Everything you need shipped to your door for $295. Add up the cost of parts, core charges, and taxes and I bet you won't beat that price.

Gubni, are your weld-on brackets half the circle or the whole circle? IIRC, a full-circle bracket wouldn't work on that axle. It's been almost 3 years since I did the 70 disc swap, but I seem to think that the bracket was really close to the drum backing flange, and it was tapered a little bit too. But my memory is rusty, and I honestly can't remember it that well. I do remember that the Ruffstuff bracket was easy to put on though. And patrick, I don't have any pictures from the rear.

336wheeler where do I know ya from? Lol I'ma finish tearing shot apart tonight and start ordering parts tomorrow!

You tried to trade for my wheels/tires at the playground (36" iroks/20" rockstars)<< haha

My 70 brackets are half circle. I have them in various tube diameters by .25". Also Mine are 3/8" where most others are 1/4"

Oh hey man! Hahaha havnt seen ya around man how ya been?

Gubni everywhere I look they are all 3/8. Barnes has the brackets for $34

Ruffstuff is 3/8"... Patrick I have been doing well. I support local business, may want to give Gubni a shout and see what his kit includes. If that doesn't work out for you, PM me.
