whats everyone dd around here? I am looking for preferably a 4 cylinder 5 speed car. originally i was looking at a tdi jetta and that was way out of of my price range of 3000. then i was looking at hondas but everyone i see is either ragged out or riced out. I do not know much about 4 cylinders so who makes a reliable 4 cylinder car for under 3000 used?

I will sell you my 1998 Ranger 2wd 4cyl 5 speed for $1700.

What kind of mpg are you looking for?

Ive dd'd everything from a 92 accord to a lifted xj, and my favorite dd was a 99 cherokee I had, bone stock, all power, and got right at 20 mpg.

As for a reliable 4 cylinder, I would look for Camry's and Corolla's before Hondas, hondas are usually more sought after by the ricer/moron crowd, toyotas are more looked over and usually in much better condition.

well I have a 02 dodge i get anywhere from 16-20 in. i drive around 55 miles a day so i was looking at getting 32+ mpg. but I know nothing about who makes a reliable 4 cylinder car.

I drive a 95 Olds Ciera, V-6, great power and 30 mpg's all the time. In three years I have put 85K on it, replaced the alternator, 2 sets of tires, and the plug on the radiator to drain the fluid. Other than that it's been regular oil changes and tranny flushes.

Not sleek, not pretty, but reliable

just bought another one for my oldest son and gave $400 for it

i had very good luck with a 1994 Mazda 626. Between me and my brother we have put a lot of hard miles on that thing. I know when I had it is almost always got in the low 30's on the road and high 20's around town with a teenager driving it.

It was cheap back when we got it they aren't much more now(same relative year). Stay far far away from any 4cyl/auto combo

02 Mazda Protege5.
Really fun car, at least the 5spd version. Plenty of space to throw crap in thr back, fit 4 people etc.
I average about 28 mpgs, if I really work at it can get 32.
Had to do minimal work; the parts/logic etc is the same as most Ford mid/small cars and pretty straightforward.

From what I understand the key to Mazdas is to get a 5spd for reliability.

As per another thread in this very forum, I recommend a Saturn SL series. If you keep oil in them they go forever. Abusable, great mileage, not ricer material so available dirt cheap.
