Just need some imput. Gooseneck or tag a long? The trailer is only gonna be a 20' trailer at the biggest. Where/Who has the best deals on a new or used trailer?

trailer

With a 20' trailer that doesn't leave you with alot of room after putting a truck on it. I would go with a bumper pull so you could still use the truck bed to haul stuff if needed.

I'd do tag along. If your truck breaks down it is a lot easier to find someone with a trailer hitch than a gooseneck hitch.

I have a 20 foot deckover bumper pull that I haul my blazer on and takes almost the whole trailer.A long bed std cab truck hangs off the end.Unless you find a good deal on a 20 footer I'd get a 24 foot at least. If you can find a lowboy that you can make work for ya,you will be better off.My Blazer on 39's catches a ton of air sittin on a deckover trailer.

The lower deck on my 5th wheel trailer is 19'. I'm going to make it a deck over and shorter it to 16' in the next few weeks. I have the neck for spares are storage so that isn't much of an issue. The turn WAY better.

Here's the other problem the way it sits now the truck squeezes through fenders on my buddies trialer and i'm planning on going to a wider tire, do they make a trailer that is wider than 82" thats not a deckover?

Replace the fenders with industrial conveyor belt material... RickyR did his years ago (maybe he'll grace us with pics:flipoff2:). Still legal (AFAIK, there's no regs on trailer fender construction, nor have I heard of the fenderless folk having issues), cuts down on rain/rocks getting slung & drive right over them.

Done... and WAY cheaper than a new trailer (if you plan to use your buds?)

I have a 20 foot deck on my trailer and had plenty of room when my K5 and now the 86 Burb takes all the trailer but still gives me enough room to strap my gas grill in front or behind the truck depending on wether the burb is all the way forward or the rear. When I use my 2500 it goes almost all the way to the front. When I use the 1500 burb it sits closer to te rear of the trailer. hd a 99'ish ford superduty four door (crew cab) long bed on it and it did hang over the rear LOL.

Mine's 18 on the deck and 2 on the dove. The only problem I see with drivin over tires/fenders is if your trying to load a non-running vehicle it will be a major pain gettin it loaded with no ps and/or a winch.

Even purchasing a cheap 8000lb winch for the trailer is cheaper than a new trailer. $300 then a few $$$ for heavy gauge wire and you're good to go

make the fenders out of 1/4" plate and drive over them.

Once you haul a gooseneck you will never own another tag along.

Depends on what he's towing it with.

If it's the combo in his sig, towing a K5 on a deckover goose with a 6.5L is going to bring the suck. The gooseneck is heavier than a tag of the same length, and the deckover means that whatever he's towing catches a lot more air.

Deckovers are easier to load sometimes, dropdecks are easier to load other times. Deckovers are harder to pull all the time.

The weight difference of the trailer should not matter too much. He is pulling with a diesel.

The deck height is not going to change either way, so any wind that will be on the load will be there regardless of hitch.

The maneuverability of a goose whoops a tag without question. I can spin my 24' goose in less area than you can turn a 16' tag.

The deckover beats the tar out of a drop as far as "payload" room. I would go that route anyday.

Just because a 6.5 burns oil doesn't put it in the same league with the rest of the turbo diesels. ;)

The deck height difference between a lowboy and a deckover is about a foot. It's a big deal if you're underpowered to begin with.

This is really the same as a lot of other debates -- 2wd tow rig vs 4wd, long box or short, CTD or PSD, gas or diesel, etc etc -- that really have no "right" answer. It comes down to an individual decision about what makes the most sense for your situation.

Hey you can't leave out the Duramax:driver:

Thanks for all of the input. Here are my thoughts, my rigs front bumper sits at the height of the top of my tailgate on my tow rig, so either way im gonna get a lot of wind drag the way I see it. I'm just really trying to see what is most popular and what ya'll have had the best experience with, also what i can get the most use out of.

yes, my trailer isn't a deckover and it's 102" wide (max legal width). the deck extends to the outer edge of the fenders and they are drive over made of 3/16" C channel. i wanted the width of a deckover, but not the associated height. i also didn't want a dovetail. don't expect to find one like that sitting on a lot somewhere, though. kraftsman trailers custom built mine to the specs i wanted.

I did the same thing trying to keep the overall height down. I love how it pulls and i can do pretty much anything with it. Mine has a 24' full deck length. Kraftsman makes a really nice trailer.
