Anybody use one of these or made their own? idea is to feed the little buggers when you want them there, not for them to show up at their leisure = 3am. I want to try one this season, homemade is better.

Unless you have lots of time on your hands, spend the $50 at walmart to buy the bucket with the timer on the bottom that spreads it for you.

You can set to a specific time or 30 minutes/after/before dusk etc.

Lots of folks swear by em, havent seen much on mine but havent been consistent yet either.

Good luck

Used them when I lived in TX and they would come to the feeder about 2 mins after it would go off. But the advantage there is it is very dry and not much for them to eat.

The problem up here is it is too green. Way too many acorns for them to be worrying with corn. But I have had all of my corn eaten very quickly last year after I would put it out. So good luck to you!

Waste of $$$ putting it out before mid sept, then I just barely feed so they can hear the sound. Put apples in there as well so you have smell to bring them in too. I use 50 gal plastic drums and mount a feeder to that. Find a BIG branch, 1/4" wire and a clicker handle like you find on a boat trailer. Lag screws to a big tree then you can lower and raise when refilling. which i only have to do 2-3 times a season. But I feed a shitload in Nov and Dec.

When I hunt TX we alos use feeder repeaters which mimic the feeder sound. Damn deer just walk out of the woods knowing corn is on the ground. Hell I had them chase the farm truck down the road when it is going off. I mean like within 25-30 yards behind teh truck. only fawns and does but during rut the bucks know to stay close by for a doe in heat or at least a free meal. Good luck!

I know about the broadcast spreaders, but what I am interested in is a trough with a lid that opens so they feed during shooting light. I have tons of poachers that drives them nocturnal. I want to keep them in the swamps and feed there when the younguns are getting busted in the fields. I figure that an air tank with a small air cylinder could open a 12' trough lots of times by an elcheapo timer for not much $. Then I could put in whatever- corn, apples etc. Just bored I guess.

Gotcha. I have seen those types of feeders in the Cabelas catalogs. But if you set it for 1 hour before dark, then adjust your feeding amount to what is only eaten during the night then essentially you accomplish the same goal. I too have had issues with poachers. 2x8x10 boards with 4 inch deck screws plays hell on ATV tires. So does camoflagued ropes. And before any bleeding hearts bitch remember they are tresspassing on my land, tearing down my fences and shooting the animals that I spend alot of time and money on. Screw em

agreed but I lease to farmers so I cant really do anything but call the popo with pictures.
I still like the idea of the trough on the cheap
