One look at that and I knew it wasnt from around here. however I wouldnt feel completely safe.......a week from last saturday, my friend and I were driving around looking for deer and I swear on my life I saw a black cat the size of a full grown hound dog cross the road about 150 yards ahead of us and vanished into the woods before we could get to it. We stopped to look and we didnt see or hear shnit! Spooked me. Keep your eyes open out there!

My wife and I were up in the western part of the state hiking with my son and dog a few months back. We were up a trail and we heard some rustling and a big wolf ran out of the woods and stood on the trail behind us. Scared the shit out of us. It turned and ran down through the woods, but had me paranoid the rest of the hike. I left my 45 in the truck, so I was a bit concerned. It was big too, bigger than my black Lab.

^^^was it greyish, cause that would be one of the thousands of cyotes that the state released into our woods because they thought it would help thin the deer population. well it didnt work and now they want hunters to basically kill every one they see. I havent seen one yet but Ive heard that dosens were killed last season here in stokes co.

stop it...the state didnt release the coyotes

They are here, and in SC...but they were not released by the state...they may have been introduced by auto insurance companies, but not state dnr
besides theyve been here decades at this point

:poop:Yep, I guess yer right and I was wrong. Its just what Ive always heard and I never thought to "look it up" to see if it was true. But if you look at this link http://www.ncwildlife.org/Wildlife_Species_Con/Profiles_new/coyote.pdf you will find on page 3 that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services did release Red Wolves into the area in the 1980's.:flipoff2: I guess this story was told by so many people over time that it got twisted. By the time I heard it everyone started blaming the high coyote numbers on the state. PS: I think thats a picture of :poop: on the 3rd page.

I have had over 25 within 17-20 yds since saturday. Still waiting for the biggest doe because she will bust a hunt or 2 at some point during gun season. They are eating between 10-15 lbs of corn a night. So many fawns though, most does I have seen have 2 fawns with them.

A red wolf is nothing more or less than a cross between a grey wolf and a coyote. They can breed and live along with the local coyote population. After a few generations of interbreeding you are back to a basic coyote.

Hurricane Hugo back in 1989 was a huge help to establish the central NC coyote population. High fenced fox pens owned by fox hunters that were stocked with coyotes were released when trees fell onto the fences. Seems the fox hunters liked the fact that the coyote would run faster and further than the captive foxes would giving their fox hounds a better workout. I have a friend with a fox pen that had coyotes inside. The day after Hugo came through there were none left in the pen.

If I had had that many deer that close since last Saturday, I would have been to Wal-Mart last Tuesday to buy the extra doe tags........................

missed the same spike 5 times over monday and tuesday... losing Rage's in the beans gets expensive quick. lots of descent 4s and 6s so I thought I would stick to the little guy on my first bow trip ever. he ducked low everytime.

Always, always, always practice with your broadheads. Take your target to the tree and shoot. Or remake the shot at home w/ the exact same angle/distance. If it is jumping string that much take your bow to a quality shop and have them look at it to quiet it down or speed it up. Deer can barely jump a string at 250-275 fps 25 yds or less.

Good luck:beer:

Feed the does and keep them close, the bucks will follow. Hell I just like watching them but the biggest, smartest doe will keep the bucks away if she is spooked from a certian area.

Just want to remind everyone to be safe this hunting season. My cousin fell from his stand the other day while climbing down. He fell about 20 feet. He was airlifted out. He has a few broken ribs and bruised up pretty bad. He got very lucky. Wish you all the best this season. Please be safe.
