My laptop is dying yet again. It's past time for a replacement (and if anybody knows of a fab deal on a decent laptop, I'm open to suggestions).
However as a stop-gap I need to try and get it running again at least enough to get me by until I can get a new one.

I'm pretty sure either the mobo or CPU is fried (or both). Suspicious it overheated.
I'm wondering if anybody has a CPU or a board to fit this thing. I *think* all the 8000 series boards are the same.
Since I don't know what the root problem is, I really just need it to borrow for a test. Can return within 24 hours (or less?). I just don't want to go ordering both if not necessary.

Ebay is probably your only bet for getting older laptop replacement parts like that. If it were me I'd just buy a new one, pull the hard drive out of the old one and transfer all my stuff over.

As far as good deals go, if you're willing to put in some time and effort FatWallet is the best place to learn about good deals. You've got to be ready to pull the trigger quick sometimes though.

Thanks for the link.
I agree with you, it's time to get a new one. However that will take a little time and research. With Christmas coming up, money has gone elswhere....
As I mentioned this is intended to be a stopgap solution.
