Dial 811 before you dig...

Yeah pretty crazy... wonder how safe we really against those tanks exploding. I live very close lol, my brother lives within a mile and I am within 5 miles of that. Would say we are in the blast radius.

We were coming back from a wedding late last night during that storm. I know exactly the lightening bolt that started it. It's the one that woke me up out of my driving daze as well. A few minutes later I see the shadow of a very odd shaped cloud up ahead. By the time I realized what was burning and where we were I had already passed the exit I should have taken to go the long way around. :shaking: So she snapped that picture at 85 mph while I dodged idiots stopping on the side of the highway to watch.:shaking: We could feel the heat in the truck from the far left lane. Pretty crazy sight.

Youre very safe against the tanks exploding. With all the safety features built into tank farms Im actually surprised this occured, but as you can see is worst case they dont really explode, they just burn really hot.

I was real into volunteer emergency services a few years ago. (2 daughters playing 3 sport EACH in high school forced a volunteer slowdown).
At a meeting, they had the G-boro FD there to talk about large scale emergencies and this very subject came up.
The biggest concern, even to the FD, was the environmental impact. It SHOULDN'T go boom, there is spill containment, but not enuff for 2 or more ruptures.
What usually happens, the bad stuff burns off.

Man thats nuts! i heard about this.
ive always feared some crazy rag-head terrorist would fly a plain into those things, im pretty sure that would take us all out.

i thought they "lightning proofed" those things, i mean as much as we pay for gas that stuff should be missle proof! lol
