difference in xj springs 4cyl vs 6

will putting the stock coil springs (front) from a 6cyl xj provide any lift on a 4cyl xj?

No, they only had one spring to my knowledge. However, you left springs that the aftermarket can give more lift to a 4 popper then a 6. I had this "problem" with my 84. A 3" spring gave me 4" of lift.
 
They did offer the Up Country package in later XJ runs, which used taller springs that gave about 1" of lift over standard height. I bet that was only available with the 6cyl.
 
Then there's alway's stock ZJ springs, and V8 ZJ upcountry springs, small lift on the cheap if you find the right junkyard
