It's a matter of choice. I run 75/85 [depending on brand] - 140, synthetic. For years, my Jeep has been parked on a concrete floor. Just the difference in trying to push it with standard 90W vs. synthetic, is convincing for me. Synthetic will give you more protection if you get water or moisture pollution, in the housing, & hopefully a little more if you spring a leak & run low. If you decide to splurge for syn, might as well go up to the 140 weight. I think it's still the same or near same cost, even if the gears get hot enough to make the 140. I busted open a diff cover on night, in a river crossing, without knowing it. Drove 15 - 20 miles back to the Hotel. Saw it the next morning. JB Weld & 2 qt of 90, got me home & drove it for two more weeks, before the bearing started making noise. The ring & pinion, were blued, from the heat, but were not making noise. I feel like the synthetic, got me back home & then some. Just my opinion.
