Dano, asked me about A (JEEP 4.2L) distributer upgrade. There are several ways to go, but the most popular one is the H.E.I. upgrade. Google it, if you just wont settle for anything less than A GM setup. You change out the entire distributer, for A GM H.E.I. one, & you also have to change it's cam gear to an AMC gear. So you have to remove, & replace the stock distributer. The way I did it, you get a great distributer, & you don't have to disturb your stock one. The problem with the stock unit, is it's tendency to cross fire. The terminals are too close together. That said, Here's what I did. The Team Rush upgrade; This was invented by Junk Yard Genius, http://www.junkyardgenius.com//ignition/jeep/HEI01.html Yes he does the H.E.I thing too. Basically the Team Rush, (Duraspark Ignition) is A tune up. You replace the distributer cap, rotor, & wires, with these Napa parts. Cap-FA136, Cap Adapter-FA139, Rotor-FA159, These parts are for a 1982 Ford F150, with 300cid I6. Plug wires-700313, from A ford Fairmont I6, will fit the 4.2L jeep motor. Now the wires need to be 8MM or larger. I used the Accel universal kit, because I like the red color, not cheap @ $50.00! So use the Fairmont ones, if your on A budget. ( Don't forget to separate the wires, with looms, or clips. They should not touch each other) [There is also A coil upgrade, (E-core) that goes with this deal. From a 1986 ford escort, but you have to be sure that you have A certain ballast wire in place, or you will fry your Duraspark Ignition module.] [Also Advance springs ( Mr. Gasket #925D), But These aren't required.] [Also This mod, works great with an MC2100 carburetor swap, & the Nutter Bypass.] Now many of you may refer to this, as the T.F.I. upgrade. his would be incorrect, as the T.F.I. was A big failure for Ford, whole different setup. Thanks goes out to, Junk Yard Genius! Dude Knows A great deal about electrical stuff as well. You can also find him on the CJ forum @ J/U!
