Ok, so I get these today from a neighbor and they have no history, but they arent stolen... He just brings them over and drops them off. So what the hey, Ive got two tanks, but no need for them. Ive got a plasma cutter and no need for a torch rig- the other neighbor has one (and he can buy the gas). They are marked National Welding Supply Co. Now heres the part that I dont know about. Are these 'owned' tanks or are they rentals? Does it matter at all since I want to sell them outright? What are they worth? The problem right now is that the big tank doesnt have a proper sized cap, so thats a little spooky, and they appear to have some gas left in both of them.
I just dont know that much about this stuff, I just take my Mig/tig empties to MWS and they give me new pretty filled ones. I know this is a :gay: question, but really, what can I do with these? (tire is a 38" for scale)

National welder is pretty wide spread and I have never had a problem exchanging thier tanks. Most auto supply stores interchange empties for full bottles with the price being for the gas. When you exchange you don't get the same bottles back so I don't see a problem. If they were rental tanks then someone is being billed and I guarantee the renter would not let them go if they were responsible for them. I would take them and use them. I don't know what they're worth. I believe if they were gave to me and I had no use for them then I would ask my friends if any could use a spare bottle! Spares are expensive if you have to buy one, so if you can use a spare, 'keep, if not, give to someone who can. Just my thoughts.

I'll take them!! I can always use a spare. I also would like to trade one in for a pure argon for when I get a spool gun for my neused millermatic 200 I just got..Hook a guy up please. I too like my plasma cutter but I still find uses for the ole torch.

the only possible problem I know of, is if they are out of date then most wont even exchange them...I got 2 like that at the farm.

how do I check the latest inspection date?

Most places don't check the dates. The If they have National Welding Supply stamped in them then they are rented and you can only exchange them there.

Not necessarily...My tank says national welding supply and it's mine. I traded my empty tank (which I owned) for a full one.

I have national welder's tanks and i just take them in and swap them out when I need new ones... most the time you buy the "steel" and then just exchange paying the the gas from then on...

Id either swap them for a tank you want/need or give/sell them cheap...

What auto supply houses do you shop at? I wish mine did this.

so what are they worth?

at least 100 bucks!!!!!

A lot less than if you knew anything about them. They're smaller tanks, at least the O2 is, assuming that's what it is. Take them to NW and have them checked out, and you'll be able to ask more for them. Right now, I have no idea what to tell you. I wouldn't give you much, considering they could still be boat anchors.

Those are not typical rental size tanks. NW usually rents out the 300cf tanks only. In fact, just recently they no longer sell the 300cf tanks. They are rental only. But, the ones you have are not this size so you'll be fine to just take them in there and swap them out for whatever gas you want.

NW doesn't check dates, etc. just roll up there, unload, and tell the guys what you want and they'll roll a full one of the same size to your truck. They don't fill your tank and hand it back to you. So the date doesn't matter.

If they are full of a common gas, I'd say maybe $100 or so. That just a guess as I haven't purchased any in a while, just exchanged.
