Do I need a SYE set-up for a 4" RE kit on a YJ?

I'm getting ready to install a Rubicon Express 4" standard suspension kit on my 94 yj. I will be using only the kit and no other suspension. The kit comes with the transfer case lowering spacers, and the rear springs have shims. Will I be okay if I just run the kit and lower the transfer case or do I need to get a SYE and new drive shaft. My funds are basically gone. Please let me know what you have done. Thanks, Tim

be alot better if you did..

try the transfer case drop and set pinion angle right and see if you have any vibes. Either way, the SYE is a good idea, for strength and longevity of everything.

It'll be a definate if you run the transfercase/skid link mount kit. The long arm extreme duty version runs this and actually raises the case. Anyhow your right at that working limit and your drivetrain will be stronger and chunk less joints with one. I prefer anything over the hack and :poop: kits.

Need, yes. Must have, not necessarily. You should be able to get by with the tcase drop and leaf spring shims, at least for road and mild off road use.

Nope, you can get by with out it, till you rip the back off the transfer case from the driveshaft swinging around. The sye kit is very much recomended for anything over 3", and you will also keep your ground clearence by leaving the belly pan in place.

I still don't think you need a sye, yes it would be better and help offroad, but not necessary so many people I know run w/o em.

However helpful tip here, if you do get a sye, don't waste the money on some tom woods driveshaft or a custom one, just get a drivshaft from the front of an XJ and have it shortened, way cheaper, bolts in, works just as good.

Just my personal experience, FWIW, my son ran a 4" Pro Comp lift on a YJ with 35" tires for 2 years in high school using only the tcase drop and axle shims. Had no problems with the tcase. Broke some other stuff though :)

I installed one of those on my brother's YJ two years ago and we did the shims/spacers. He's had no problem with but it's a street queen only.
