My 2000 Dodge V10 needs a theromostat, barely gets to 140. Am I doing any damage running this until I can ge one? I need to go to the beach about 250 round trip and I will have to order one. Should I get the 180 if i can find it or should I stick with the stock 190? Thanks, BG

You should be okay with the t-stat until you get back - sounds like it is stuck open so it shouldn't overheat at all, that is really all you need to worry about. As for the new one, either one would work fine, if it was me, I would stick with the 190. Hope this helps.

Running too cool can be hard on an engine too, it's made to run at a certain temp...~180-190 typically. And not only that, a stuck thermostat can just as easily cause it to overheat if he say gets stuck in traffic. That being said, I'd still drive to the beach...and I'd also check to make sure it's not just a faulty gauge.

How do you check the temp gauge? Would it be just as easy to replace the stat and see if that fixes the problem? Problem is, this stat doesn't come with a gasket and I haven't been able to find one. Go figure, they have the t-stat in stock but no gaskets! Would it be wise to just use perma-tex without the gasket? BG

Are you talking about a gasket for the neck? If so, you should be okay with silicone, just use a little, you don't want any silicone cruising around in your coolant.
