What is everyone's experience with these motors? How long do they last? What starts to be problems with them? Is it worth buying a dodge with a V10 that has 150k on it?

Any advice? Need to tell this guy yeah or nay soon.

No personal experience here but a friend of mine bought one, towed with it for a wk and sold it the next, got a cummins-problem solved. His biggest issue was the fuel mileage towing, said it was practically non existant. 150k on a gasser? I'd stay away but thats just my .02

never owned one but always heard they pull whatever is needed...GREAT Tq...NO Mpg...like 5-9 period.

IMO i would look at one if i was needing to haul my jeep short trips and back and take the trash to the dump and it was a smoking deal.....If i needed it for anything else i would keep searching

A bud of mine has a 3/4ton V10 Dodge that reports the same mileage (or lack of?) whether unloaded or loaded (7000# towed load). OTOH, they say it'll pull a mtn. UP a mtn without breaking a sweat... not fast, but definitely steady.

Caver Dave, how many miles are on your buddy's V10?

I had a 98 it was weak but theres a few years you have to watch out for something about a bad casting on the heads and they crack think mine had this issue it was strong when i first got it but got weaker but never let me down had 90+ miles when i sold it and that boy run the heck out of it with no problems other than a wrist pin knock sound but never let go

Thanks guys for all the info. I missed the deal on this one, but I am going to keep the V10s on my radar in the future.

honestly i have no experience with the dodge V10, but the ford V10 was pretty good. I borrowed my buddies excursion and towed my TJ with it. Probably a good 8k lbs and we got around 12-13 mpg with that weight. Athough, this was traveling at 55-60mph the whole way because i was loosing tires off the trailer every 40 miles :/.

We have a Dodge V-10 and Ford V-10 here at work. Dodge will out pull the Ford all day long. Ford gets better mileage, but that is because of the 8.0l Dodge is many cubic inches bigger than the 6.8l Ford.
