dont know if this is newb question

I put an 8.8 on my ZJ and the ABS harness is now zip-tied up to the body, the ABS light does come on but it hasn't caused me any problems on the road. Since 8.25's came in XJ's I would assume your harness would plug into it without a problem but I've never dealt with them.

ABS only came on the D35's not 8.25. For about 100 years people were able to drive without ABS. Just get rid of it and make sure the light is out so you won't get dinged on inspection.

ABS would be useless. Pull the dash cluster, remove the light for the ABS and wrap the wires up.

Is this a daily driver? What type of wheeling are you doing with it? If it's all mild, then you might consider leaving the D35 in there. A open D35 would be fine for mild wheeling/trail riding. If you're wanting to crawl rocks, then sure, swap in an 8.25 or 8.8. The 8.25 would be the easiest swap.

Its my dd...the abs light is already on for another reason...so it would be really wierd with it not on...I like to do some rock crawling but I know my limits...eventually I would like to make this a trail only rig...but not for a long long long time, finances and wife willing....so don't even worry about the abs...ok thanks for the help

And there's no need to turn the light off for state inspection. Just so long as the brakes work you'll pass just fine. Unless it bothers you.

If you plan to drive it to crawl the rocks, then do the axle swap. If you are always going to trailer it, then you could make do with the D35. The 8.25 the easiest to do, unless you find an 8.8 already set up.

There's actually two axles for sale right now that would meet your needs. Drum brakes on both of these axles:

For inspection purposes andn legality issuses DO NOT rmeove any light from your cluster. "wink wink" $125 fine, and upon a safety inspection, the right tech, not me, if the car stops without metal to metal or screaming, I'll pass it, they will see the lines and look for the light. Tell you to fix it so they can charge parts and labor to pass your Jeep.

Any factory cluster light, removed from it's original housing is illegal, If you remove the light, bust it and put it back in....... totally legal. Must have busted while on the trail.:driver::huggy:
