So I took the front doors of my grand cherokee today. Just in case I got pulled over, I stopped by Boone PD to get an excuse and according to the officer I talked to it is legal as long as I put on side view mirrors. His words "If it came with a drivers side it needs a drivers side, if it came with both it needs both."

I'll try to put up pictures later this weekend

personally i like how you stepped up and asked instead of waiting till you got pulled or went through a check point.
get some mirrors and go.

FWIU you only have to have 2 mirrors one of those two being the DS mirror. Plus Im pretty sure they dont have to work just need to be there with some glass... all I see out of mine is the ground

The two side mirror thing might just be boone. I really don't know, but since I'm putting the doors back on tomorrow night or sunday I'm avoiding spending the money on mirrors.

I'm currently cameraless so the pictures might be a while in coming. I'm definetely taking the doors off again since it was so easy once the weather gets and stays nice.

until then... imagine a really really really stock wj with no front doors

From what I know about a NC Inspection process. the drivers mirror is really the only thing needed in a SUV/Pick-up. Im 95% sure. but I will check tomorrow and make sure. Like Futbal said you could get a cheap small mirror and mount it onto the Apillar. but again i will Check in the morning.

Update on the jeep

Put the doors back on. My fiancee decided that she would only ride in it with the doors off while wheeling otherwise it "was too windy and blew her hair in her face". Time to take em off 20 minutes, time to put em on 15 minutes.

I picked up two 4 inch convex mirrors for about $3 to ducktape to the Apillars for mirrors. I cant see a damn thing with em though. Word of caution to anyone thinking about doing this, these doors are heavy as hell

this isnt the guys that started the thread....but you get the idea

thats what im talking about.

out of curiousity anyone know something about tube/soft doors for a wj? Id like to leave the doors off longer but my bum likes to stay dry.

How bad is body flex with the doors off? I can take my DS door off but now I hear it squeaking on the road. I can only imagine if all 4 were off. Plans for a cage to add the strength back?

body flex is more noticeable, but not quite as bad as with a XJ with the doors removed

i think having the rear doors off makes the flex a great deal more noticeable

as for the picture i posted, there were plans to add some tube work for strength/flex reasons, but they have changed for the most part, so who knows

and yes, WJ door are heavy as hell

I drove around for years in Boone with no doors on my XJ and never got hassled by the cops there. Currently it has no doors or hatch. The only glass left is in the winshield, and no problems.

If anyone knows the specs in that Jeep - please let me know. My WJ is identical, except for the tires, doors, long arm and all the other cool stuff. But it is grey and the same interior. :)

Thats my Dub-J. It was originally owned by Daniel, Ridefasts buddy. My brother and I installed the claytons long-arms on it a couple years ago and Daniel moved on from wheeling and I picked it up super cheap :huggy: . It will be out on the trails pretty soon and a 9" spooled 4:88 rear some 38" tsls, no doors just like the picture and no interior, just front seats and a cage.

What size tires, trimming?

Originally it had some 33" mtr's and no trimming, now its got lots of trimming up front and wheel base extended in the rear with the tank recessed into the floor by removing the spare well.
