Ok...not a gimmick, this works as long as you follow these simple rules.
First rule...assume I am right...
Second rule, if I am "wrong" see rule #1
Seriously.... your mpg will not double but you will go 2-3+ further on a tank of gas by SHARING a ride with a fellow 4x4er to/from work!?!?!?
Think about it, if both of you live within a few miles of each other and work within a few miles of each other....
Week 1...YOU drive, pick them up...talk "Jeep/Yota/your poision" all the way to/from work every day....
Week 2...THEY pick you up...
Week 3...repeat and rinse...if you find a 3rd buddy then you are going THREE times as far on your gas.
Now...this is not as "easy" as driving yourself...if you are like me you like to eat out lunch, etc. One option is for both of you to drive to work and one leave car at work all week long for use with errands or emergencies, etc....you lose that 5th trip of savings each week but still would see a significant savings.
How much $? I don't know...for me, 20 miles each way, Excursion getting 15.5mpg, is 12.9 gallons of fuel each week x $3 each, so $39 per week I DON'T drive... $78 per MONTH. (2 way split....3 way split I would save $104 per month on avg)
According to IRS tables of .445 per mile, I save $178 per month of gas/wear/tear on my vehicle splitting 2 way...
So...I say all of this to start a thread for folks interested in SHARING rides to/from work? There are websites directed to this, but you are liable to get stuck in a car with some goober...at least here you have a hobby in common!
We can come up with a better format if this catches on but:
