I started this topic on another board. Got some pretty interesting responces, so I thoguht I'd put it out here to see what you guys could come up with.
I've always wanted to do a combo Old Truck with new Drive Train in it. Like a 60's Crew Cab Dodge Powerwagon with a Dodge Ram 3500 drivetrain. Or Willys Truck Extended to 4 door with the Cummins. then go through the interior and update with cushy buckets and whatever.
Or I photo chopped one that I like:
(just a quick ugly photochop)

Something along the lines of an early 40's 4 door mercury dropped and chopped on air bags. With a good Cat or Cummins motor. Painted matte black with a black leather interior trimmed in either CAT yellow or red. Custom gooseneck hitch in the trunk with a matching airbagged trailer.

Oh damn! that Merc would be pretty slick, don't forget axles with brakes big enough. and hope those airbags can pick you up high enough for the ugly tow rig parking areas.

Oh and Joel, that was very insightful thanks for your idea. :fuck-you: too

As for a realistic dream tow rig/daily driver I might look at the ford with a cummins that's rumored to come out in a few years.

But for a dream tow rig I'd like a toterhome. This would get me to moab in style. :)

Vangaurd, that would be slick if it wasn't yellow and didn't have spinners.

With the merc. I am hoping not to have to worry about brakes to much. It will hopefully get built after I build the buggy which is going to be built as light as possible. I am hoping to have the dual axle trailer with brakes on both axles, loaded with the buggy down to less than 5k pounds. They do make some 8 inch bags. That will get the frame up high enough.

I like the old willys idea too. I am building a wagon now. I had looked at taking a wagon and chopping 3 feet out of the middle to make an extended cab truck body. Then put the whole thing on an old gen 1 dodge frame or a F250 diesel frame with a willys truck bed. Instead I put the wagon on a wagoneer frame and it will be getting 35's and lockers for something more fun for trail rides.

If I had enough money to buy a rig like that I would probably run spinners too as a joke. Hell, even my trailer would have some spinners (even if they were the walmart variety).

A lincoln Town Car with a CTD engine.

haha, i always had similar fantasies about the 68 chrysler newport i used to have. more as a tow rig for a my duster though...

Ya ever sat in a chopped top Merc? Visibility would be slim and none, just another thought.

Yes I have. It is the tow rig not a trail rig. All I need to see is in front of me. Of course it would have to be towing my dream buggy made from a chopped up 2a hood and grill. I only tow 1-2 times a month a few months a year, but I am stuck driving my tow rig to and from work everyday. With a diesel, big brakes, and the right suspension a chopped 40's-50's 4 door sedan would ride like a caddy, pull like a tractor, and turn heads like a fat kid on a unicycle.

It's been done.... There's a pic on PBB somewhere... :flipoff2:

As was said though, wish it had a ctd instead.

The dually J truck with four doors would get my vote. I would add a Caddy 500 or a Buick 455, 400 tranny to the pot. My biggest complaint with my old j truck was the leg room. With the four door option I would have enough.

that is pretty sic, but I couldn't do that to one. I want it to look like a hot rod, be built like a hot rod, but pull like a tank. My dream tow rig is something that I would love to drive every day. The more I think about it the CTD would be a better option. Then I could tune the crap out of it and go to the strip. That would be something different, a merc dropped on the ground pouring black smoke out the back as it gets ready to run.:huggy:

A cool a$$ towrig me and Bigwoody saw in WV. If i was going to that much work, I would've made it a crewcab.
