I'm thinking of switching from locking hubs to drive flanges on my Toyota buggy. It's got a lockright in the front, hydro steering and stock front axle shafts.
Should I wait until I can afford chromo front shafts to switch to drive flanges? If I do pop a shaft, I like the thought of being about to unlock that wheel and make it out without trashing the inside of my housing. But also, don't really trust locking hubs for the kind of beating I want to do this season.
I'm sure with my set up, axle shafts are my weakest link right now, but that expense is a few paychecks out.

I would just toss a spare hub assy in the toolbox and rock out. I never broke a hub with stock axles and a lokrite, birfs now that's a different story!

you could also get chromo hub gears if you wanted to strengthen the hub. Id buy the flanges for when I get chromos, and just throw them in the toolbox for spares, for now. If you blow out a lockout, swap in the flange. Im betting the bells wont outlast the lockouts.

If you have the stock aisin hubs they are pretty stout if you keep them tight. I mean after every day of wheeling check them. Don't go flanges on stock shafts.
