Drive shaft balance

i am going to be shorting my drive shaft for my dana 44 swap to cj7 it will be the front drive shaft. My question is do I need to have it balanced, I have locking hubs and I am not really wanting to pay the extra 30-40$ if I do not need to. It will be a weekend wheeler driving to and from the trail.

As long as it's pretty true, I wouldn't worry about it. I've shortened probably 6 or so and hadn't had a balance issue.... Yet. I've even lengthened one...

You may Never run the front at any speed or on the pavement. Small vibration if any shouldn't be a problem, off road.

The only thing that will suck is when you break something in the rear and have to drive back in front wheel drive only. Been there done that.
