Driving back from Fort Hamby after a rain soaked night of camping, I managed to get a driving award just below the Apple House in Alexander county (70 in 55 after just passing a car and passing in a no passing zone). I was wet and ready to get home. Anyone know any good traffic attorneys in Alexander County, NC. I'm not sure if I have to use one in the same county or not? It's been about 12 years since I got a ticket. Any suggestions would be a great help.

Pretty sure you can go to driving school and just pay the fine, But it doesn't go on your record so insurance isn't affected.

A lot of the time the info is on the ticket. Most officers will even tell you about when you get it.

Might call the DAs office for the county.

I know it helped me a few years back. $40 4 hour class was well worth it. I still paid the fines to I think. Its been a while.

I call BS on the entire story.
NO way John Brooks was going 70mph, in the rain...on the wrong side of the road. No way
Didnt happen....BS!!!:shaking:

That's funny Dylan...that is hard to believe isn't it. I had the Dodge in the wind since my camp bowe brakes were beginning to release:driver::poop:!

Ive got alot of tickets in my days (16-19 yrs old). This is what I did: faulty equipment (twice), Alive at 25 (twice), dead snake (once) he saw it at my door....and left without even talking to me!, super heavy rain (once) pulled up beside me...said "Slow Down!" and left, and one was thrown out. I paid the other half a dozen and played the insurance game. My advice cause I got lots of experience here, dont pay for an attorney, be the first one or so in line at the court, tell them you havent had one in 12 years and they will throw it out, most of the time.

don't be silly, get a lawyer. It will cost about $200 for the attorney and $100 for court fees/fines, insurance will never know. You should be getting soliciations in the mail, but good question as to who is worth a damn...you need local input. I've had decent luck just picking one of the mailings, but its a crapshoot.

Seeing as how you have a clean record, you might be able to waste your morning and dick around in traffic court, get it knocked down yourself, but you have to ask yourself if its worth taking off work and risking not having the inside conncetion the lawyers do?

I've had many driving awards, gone to the 4 hr class twice and the 8hr class once. That is a tool the lawyer is able to use to bargain you out of a moving violation into a non-moving (not reported to insurance). You still pay a fee/fine to the court, you add more funds to the local communiuty college, and the lawyer gets some cash. Everyone is happy, except you and your insurance company.

:lol:Get a little blow by, did ya

No blow by...just a little "dottn' cotton".

You're correct...not worth me taking off work. You're on the spot for the amount also. The one guy I have called also said $300 total. I have had a few folks recommend the same attorney in that area and that will be the route I will take.

Thanks for all the advice folks! It's been a while since I had one of these and have forgotten how all this works.

Just call the courthouse and tell them you want to go driving school. Generally you pay the ticket plus $50, but you will save the $50 times ten on your insurance for the next 5 years.

I thought about this thread on my way to work this morning as I was recieving the "least amount of time at a 4-way stop" award. Maybe the DA will work with me, a "rolling stop" dosen't seem to be worth $171 to me, but oh well.

Just tell the judge you were about to shiat your panties. Hopefully he is old and experiences the same feeling a few times a day. Maybe he will sympathize with ya.:poop:

Get a lawyer... You should be able to go to traffic school. The last ticket I had was speeding 70 in a 55 (work zone) with an open container (beer soda). Went to traffic school and all was good. That's been years ago, but I'm sure the state will gladly take your $$$ and a Saturday in payment.

yes, get a lawyer. The $200 is well worth it (if you get a good one)

I've had good luck with the guys that send me letters. However, I have to talk to them quite a bit first to get their "take" on it and what they feel they can do. One guy said he'll do the best he can but can't guarantee anything. Trash, went to the next guy who's brother was married to the cop that gave me a ticket. He practically guaranteed getting off. Voila! $225 later and I was good to go, no ticket ! :)

Honestly, your first and second tickets are freebies. No insurance points (raised rates) and no where near $300! If you make $300 in the half day (if that) that you are there, then go for it. If not, here's what you do.

Go to court, be there early, go to the DA and he will automatically reduce the speed to 9 over. You don't even have to ask for it he just does it for everyone, even those that are WAY over the limit. (20-30 mph over) you go before the judge and plead guilty to that charge. He says "OK you pay the court costs, ($125 or so) and a $10 fine. Pay the nice lady in cash (cause they ONLY take cash) then you are free to go. Should you get another ticket in the next 3 years, go back to court, the DA reduces it to 9 over but this time you have to use a Prayer for Judgment (PJC) This only costs you court costs and NO fine. The third one in less than 3 years after that one costs you because the PJC ticket and the new one hit your insurance companys desk. Also remember there is a difference between license points and insurance points. You get 1 license point per ticket, but for 9 or less over (or and PJC) you get no insurance points.

Interesting tidbit. I went downtown Winston to get my gun permit, on my way out of downtown (while trying to figure out where the hell I was and how to get out of downtown reading directions) I managed to run a red light. I hit a guy in the front fender of his car. Yada yada, I fessed up got all the info etc, got the ticket for running the light etc. I go to court to pay up, and the DA goes did you take care of the accident? I tell him yea my insurance paid to fix the other guys car. It's all good. He says OK you're done. No money, no payment nothing. I didn't even have to pay court costs. Weird, I guess they figure your insurance company is going to get all the money. (Which they do).

^^^I agree

I havent had a ticket in a while now but,I have had my share.Ive never hired a lawyer.Nor even for my 81 in a 45.Always reduced to 9 over.70 in 55 should be no prob.Go to court see the DA be at work well before lunch.Save your money.

Oh and how did I get this info? Personal experience. 7 tickets in 5 years. Never paid a lawyer except for the careless and reckless I got for spinning tires in my Tacoma on wet pavement because the state pooper was pissed that NC state had just won a ball game. I really wanted to tell him who the F#$k cares who won a ball game, but I figured (by the amount of foul language coming from him) that he'd throw me in the clink.

Mark Davis was also recommended by a couple of buddies that live in that area.

I am not really worried about the speeding part but concerned about the illegal passing (passing on double yellow). I believe I will play it safe and get the lawyer.

Thanks for all the help!
