Does anyone work with or know much about dryer ducts in crawl spaces? Just got an inspection done and this is one of the things they want fixed. Is this a code violation? If so & anyone does this for a living, PM me and let me know what you would charge to help me out. Thanks!

"Safety Concerns: These comments are based on potential health or safety concerns.

The dryer vent is a long run of flexible piping with dips and sags. Long runs of dryer vent should be smooth metal piping. This reduces the risk of overheating due to lint deposits which can be trapped in the sags of the flexible piping. Replacement is needed."

last time I saw this the owner just straighted the pipe and it was fine :).. so now dips

I may do this...I just talked with the lead Wake County mechanical inspector and he said that unless the permit and house was built completely after july 1 this year it doesn't have to be rigid piping. Aparently it was optional before, and now is required ONLY on new construction.

Tetanus, are you buying or selling? If buying, tell the seller to either fix it or give you $100 cash at closing, then you will fix it.

Strait metal piping is the best, and it is not too expensive or hard to use. Also try to keep the vent running slightly down hill so it will drain condensation. Remember, you are blowing hot damp air out and when it condensates it goes to the low dips.

Yeah the buyer's inspector tried to get us for our insulation not touching the sub floor.I called around and they said that was new code.Mine was built under the old code, so I was good.Tell them you'll knock $50 off.

Last I was told by an inspector is flexable dryer duct can stretch no more than 10'. If it's more than that it must be rigid duct. That was a couple years ago though. I just suck it up and do rigid all the time now.

If it's going to cause a problem w/ you selling the house just go ahead and fix it w/ rigid. I may cost you 20-30 buck. No biggie.
