All right guys got a new rig. 1998 dodge 3500 4x4 dually 4.10 gears. Problem is the gearing 2800rpm @ 75 mph. Would like to see what size tires people are running with out wheel spacers. Have 225/85/16 stock are 215/85/16.

I am running 235's on my 2001 with 3.55's and I am taking about 2050@ 70mph, my dad has 235's on his with 4.10's and is turning 2300@ 70 mph. Don't know if this info helps you any.

All right guys looked at a truck with 235/85/16 looks like lots of space between tires. Does anyone run 255/85/16 ?what brand and how much space between tires on the back? Also my truck is a 5 speed thats were the high rpm is.Friends 6 speed is in the low 2000 @ 75

My truck is a 97, also with 4.10s and 5spd, I wanted the tallest tire possible, and what I found was the 235/85s were the widest without rear spacers to keep the tires from touching when loaded. Hopfully someone here may be able to help you with going bigger, because these SOB's really need some taller tires worse than anything I've driven..ha ha

And when I bought mine it had shorter than stock tires, it was one click from redline just keeping up with I-485 traffic. 70-72MPHish!!!

I did do 235/85/16's for a minute and they helped a bunch, aaalmost tolerable for me, but I had to go taller....

I just bit the bullet and bought some 19.5s and 245/70's and even got some 265/70 carcassas lined up to retread if I'm not completely satisfied with the height.

I agree with this. I put 255 on a chevy dually and ran a 1/4 spacer in between rims. no problems but the guy didn't haul a whole lot of weight on a regular basis. One guy has a f450 swearing to put 22.5's to get better rpm range. Think I have talked him into the 265 19.5's to save some money. I once saw some 3157516's on a dually; he says he had to bolt them up and then air them up. This guy pulled skidsteer loaders and masonary equipment daily for long hauls and didn't have any problems. I guess since they were so tight they didn't really move alot; idk.

What's a Dodge Dully?Does it need paint work?A little wet sanding and some polish will bring that paint back for ya man.I did some paint work on a Dodge Dually one time.It cleaned right up and looked Sharp!

I ran 285/75/16s on my 3500 for a while with just a 3/8s spacer between them. They would slightly touch when loaded. I never had a problem. I have 255/75/22.5s on there now. The rpms are great runing down the highway and there is about 3" between the rear tires.

A few things-

A 1998 Dodge 3500 came with 215/85's stock. Really.. check the door plate. Most everyone puts 235/85's on it at some point though.

When 2nd Gen Dodge owners tell you they ran 255's with no spacer or a very thin spacer, be sure to ask what year truck, or more specifically, how many holes are in the wheel. The old 4-hole wheels have less offset than the later 6-hole wheels, and are less tolerant of wider tires.

On my '98, 235's were about it without a spacer, because you ideally don't want the duals touching when loaded down.. (You might never have a problem, but you can)

thanks for all the help guys. Looks like 235's in my future. 19.5 would be great but not to many bread trucks and such around here.Sorry for the spelling and incorect tire size. Even the best have a brain fart some times. I know where the tags at.
