I decided to talk with Terry Savery (the one right under Deborah Walker, headranger) and get the official word as of today. If something changes I will update this thread.
IF, keep in mind IF is the key word the government shuts down and they don't come to a resolution by the time you are going out there:
1.) Trails will remain OPEN. There is no need for anyone to man the gates to collect fees etc, so there is no reason to close the gates to the trails.
2.) Campgrounds and points of interest will be CLOSED.
3.) If they don't reach an agreement today, the closure will NOT take effect until MONDAY.
4.) The volunteer work day for next weekend is still going to happen. It will be a light load work day.
5.)If there are any major changes to the above, it won't be implemented till Monday. And more than likely we won't know till then.
If you have any other questions feel free to PM me or post them up here. Or if you want to hear this exact same information from the Forest Service please call 910-576-6391 and talk with Mellisa Sanders. She will tell you the exact same thing.
