Well I messed up the carb in my 86 cherokee awhile back, and the cost of a new carb is not very cheap. Around 500-600 range. Would it be better cost efficiently to go EFI and get rid of the whole carb? Is EFI even a possibility with my engine, its a 2.8L v6. What steps would I need to undergo to change my carb to an EFI and whats the price range for the total project. Has anyone else done anything like this before? IF any other info is needed ill be glad to tell you.

same 2.8 used in TONs of chevy S-10s/blazers. be a simple swap if you did it that way. Else you could easily use a stock 2.5 jeep harness/tbi and just make an adapter. Be close enough to run fine..

Now its comnig down to more or less cost efficient. I would like to have fuel injection and not have to mess with the carb at all any more. None of this work can take place till december because Im still at Western and dont have a job so the 4.0 and trans he is selling would be gone by then. But these are the first things that need to be finished before moving on in the project. I dont have a set time frame to finish this, The only thing is that motor was just rebuilt before I bought my jeep last year. What engines would be a simple swap, I also have the 5 spd puegot tranny (i think thats right) cause I wouldnt mind just switching the engine to a stronger one.

i did a search over at NAXJA and the conversion would be a little difficult, but what I did get outta this was this link to a website that has upgraded carbs that are said to work a world of difference than the stock carb. And for a reman carb is around the same price these are looking appealing. Any opinions? http://www.racetep.com/jeepweb.html

I got a used holley projection kit of ebay and it cost me about $500, but it may be too much for your little 2.8 You should be able to get a junkyard carb for about $20. If you want the ultimate in off-road performance then you will need EFI, but if you want a cheap DD then get a used carb. You might even find one on ebay.

Yeah, this isnt my DD though. I own two cars, one being the jeep. I would love to just switch out the entire motor and trans and go a whole new set up and just be done with it. I dont know what is compatible with my current set up. But I have a limited amount of know how when it comes to engine swaps and fabrication skills. I have tools available to me cause we have a huge garage. But as the jeep sits right now I cant drive it at all. So im really stuck between a rock and a hard place right now.

Get a cheap used carb for it for now untill you can do waht you want with it. If you want to swap motors theirs no point in putting the cost and time into swapping in efi.

yeah General thats exactly what I was thinking. Ive got a decent working motor, change for a cheap carb. Where would be a good place to look? how can I tell if a junkyard carb is operating correctly what should I look for. Ill get the rest of my rig built and later on I will just switch out the whole engine for something. But thanks for everyones info
