engine swap questions

I am about to acquire an early model isuzu trooper w/ 2.6. In the near future I was considering an engine swap. I have seen a number of engines anywhere from Caddy to GM. I was also thinking that I have never seen a troop w/ rotary power and would that be logical to do?
 
Most of the troopers you find with the GM motors where not the 2.6 troopers originaly. Most likely they were 2.8 V6's originally. The 2.8 v6 troopers are the ones that are easier to swap motors in because of their GM bolt pattern on the transmission and GM computer/wiring harness.

Are you planning on keep the stock tranny and t-case?

RufustheRam would be the man to ask about what is available to swap in place of the 2.6 and keep your stock tranny t-case

In my rush to get an answer on an engine i didn't even consider about my other components. I know PLAN on keeping it as simple and cheap as possible but if i do need to swap the tranny or any other part then i will do it. i got the money for it but regardless i want to keep it simple so if something does break then it will be an easy fix. have there been any time and true engine/tranny combos out there?
 
I would use a complete drivetrain what ever you do. But they are not cheap and and engine swaps are not easy. you might be Dollars ahead to buy some thing allready done.

If i had a choice for you swap I would use a s10 drive train with a 4.3lt v6 or a drive train from a new trail blazer with DOHC I6
 
As for your thought about a rotory, probably doesn't have enough torque to do what you're wanting to do. Unless you want to put a HUGE turbo on it and then they don't last too long. Sure would sound cool at 9k RPM though.
 
the only advice I can give you is search out all your options before you decide
what to do. or you'll end up with a combination you don't like.
or just aren't satisfied with. or something that your working on constantly.

also check into all the accessories for the swap engine what options you have?
keep your original stuff with new bracketry or use the new engine stuff and retro
fit all the hoses and lines.

when I did my swap there was a whole lot more to it than just sticking an
engine in there. but I purchased a kit that had all the brackets and mounts and
stuff. made it real simple. with my set up I didn't even have to make drive line
modifications.

so do the thorough searching of all your options. and get what you want
but keep in mind that it will need to be reliable in the end. and easy to maitain.
and replacement part will need to be easy to come by as well.
so keep all that in mind when choosing your engine, tranny, and tcase set up
I mean just because you can use your stock tranny doesn't mean it will hold up
same goes for your t case. my t case was planty strong enough but my stock
tranny broke 4 times on me before I had to re-do the whole set up,
and beef it up for the engine's torque and hp.

heres you a short list of things to check into
1. new engine torque compared to yours stock will your stock tranny and tcase
hold up and is there an adapter for the new engine?
2.wiring it up will you need a computer and harness to go with the new engine?
3. exaust cost and is there clearance
4. will you have to re do the drive lines to get it all lined up?
5. radiator what will have to be done to compensate?
6. air conditioner, alternator, and other engine accessories
what will have to be done to make it all work?
7. firewall and tunnel clearances, will you need a bodylift or not?
8. will you need to mave any other components to make it work?
9. emissions laws street rig or trail only?
10. and most important do you have the skills necessary to handle all the different
aspects of the swap or will you need help?
