Anyone able to give me the lowdown on the legalities of engine swapping in N.C.? I'm looking at putting a 360 from a 1985 ramcharger in my 94 yj and need to be able to pass inspection. Am I asking for too much? Any help is appreciated

If I remember correctly, it doesn't matter what the engine comes out of, or goes in, as long as the engine is the same year or newer than the one it is replacing, and it meets emissions for the vehicle it is in.

The law says it has to be newer than the engine that came out of it and that it has to have the emission equipment that came on the vehicle. That being said, the right inspector will pass you anyway.

yea what he said, you wont need emissions test
True, but the guy is supposed to look under the hood for a visual check. Not that they all do, just that he is SUPPOSED TO.

as long as the emissions for the 360 are intact you'll be golden.

Swap it. I have never had an issue.

of course you know that 360 will not bolt up to you trans.

I have a 2000 5.9 magnum with trans in the for sales section

"Gee thanks ridgerunner, I didn't think of that" he said dripping with sarcasm. Please give just a wee tad more credit than that. I realize not everyone who posts is a mechanical genius though so thanks for the warning, I have a complete donor chassis, axles trans etc, just trying to cover all my bases. Hate to do the swap and find that noone will give me a sticker
