In the near future I will be looking to swap out my D35 from my 99 TJ for an 8.8 from a 1995 or newer Explorer. Whats under the front end of this same Explorer, and would it be something to swap also? Just looking at same gear ratios etc.. seeing if making the swap would be any easier?

Since I will probably be salvage yard shopping for that 8.8 what would be the "perfect" vehicle to pull one from? Im looking at not going over 35's for now and 4:56 gears. Which models would have LSD/tracloc?
Thanks,:driver:

How much or the axle, and how much for extra parts needed for swap...emergency brake adaptor, brake lines, calipers etc..
Would anything need to be welded?

Where are you located?

I'm asking $250 for the axle, if you decide to have us install the brackets, new brakes or gears, I'll give you a lower price. It has calipers, brake lines, driveshaft adapter, needs e-brake cables and new pads and rotors. The brackets need to be welded on, we can install the brackets before you pick it up so you only have to come down here once.

We're in Indian Trail, 2 miles off 485 on Independence Blvd(74)

LS

If you wanted to do a lunchbox locker such as an Aussie or a Lockright, you'd want an open differential and not a limited slip.

What is your gear ratio?

I havent decided which way to go once I get the 8.8. Thats why I was going to try and find one with a locker or LSD already in it to start. I plan on putting an Aussie locker (already have) in the front D30 until it gets upgraded.:driver:

Anyone that has already done the 8.8 swap in a TJ or similiar, whats a good estimate on cost for all extra supplies after initial axle cost? SYE, drive shaft needed? brakes lines, brackets...recommended items or items not recommended to use ...etc...:driver:

That is a good point! I cant do either...yet, but am willing to try anything once. So with the fact stated that I cant weld and will need gears set up...approximate costs??? closer to $1000 or $1500???

If you can do all the other work besides gears and the brackets, you could come in closer to $1000 if you find the axle cheap enough. What's gonna kill you is the adjustable UCA's and the SYE/CV if you don't already have them. I tried to run my 8.8 on my TJ with the t-case drop, but the vibe monster caught up with me. YMMV. There's deals on just about everything you need to do thw swap floating around the e-world, so it's kinda hard to nail down a total cost.

Nope I dont have either..Im trying to make a list of everything that I will need, to try and make the down time as low as possible. Also to make sure I dont have to settle for higher priced parts just to get them sooner.

Well

What gears do you need?

If you find an 8.8 with the gears you want, and use an Aussie/Lockright, there's no need to regear. That I guarantee you can install on your own.
