Explorer 8.8 LSD or Open?

I have heard several different people talk about this subject and I know which one you would rather have in stock form.

The question/subject is: Which one would you rather have, Explorer 8.8 LSD or Open?

Some people want the LSD

Some people want the Open

Which one would you want to buy and why?

Thanks

Limited slip, no question. For street or offroad, doesn't matter.

Open, and then ditch it for a full case locker

All depends on what you plan to do with it. If you plan to buy an 8.8 with the same ratio as your jeep (you can find 3.55, 3.73, and 4.10), and throw it in without messing with gears/lockers, get a LS. If you plan to put a lunchbox locker in it, get an open. If you plan to do a full carrier locker, doesn't matter.

I have never had an 8.8 apart, but i did rebuild an LS in a 9 inch once. You can replace the friction discs and 'tighten up' the LS by stacking small washers under the springs. The LS in my old 9 inch was pretty tight after doing that. I still ended up replacing it with a Detroit about 9-12 months later.

LSD, drop out a couple of steels replace with frictions, make sure to use a modifier in the fluid or fluid with it included and rock out. Otherwise a spool. JMHO

I have a full 8.8 LS carrier and all the LS parts if it matters

Limited slip, but don't limit yourself to using just the OEM unit. There are other options out there, so it may be good to research and find out what type of limited slip best fits your needs. If you're not going with the OEM limited slip, the open will be the one to buy because you can retrofit just about anything into it for a cheaper starting point.

I've rebuilt plenty of 8.8'LS, and shimmed a few to where it would drag an inside tire when you turned. Really easy to do but it'll wear out pretty quick like.
