How many of you guys on here have an F250 or Excursion with a 5.4 and Tow with it. I want to buy a 2wd Excursion to do some towing with but seems like all I find reasonably priced is the 5.4. So i am curious what type of mileage people are getting. I will pull my Cherokee or Impala on a dual axle trailer.
My thought is that since gas is a lot cheaper than diesel right now and maintenance on gas is cheaper it would be a better deal to go with either a gas 5.4 or the V10

I have a 7.3 Diesel Excursion but I made it too big for towing.

Thanks

My dad has an 02 F150 Supercrew with the 5.4, and we used to pull a 7x12 V-nose enclosed trailer all over the southeast. It averaged 8-10mpg pulling the trailer (probably 3500lbs) and around 16 empty.

I won't buy another. Bought this one because it was a steal. It's bad on gas, and when I pull a couple of wheelers on a 12 foot single axle, its really bad on gas. 293,000 on the ticker and she still gets on down the road. Gave up on trying to get the plugs to stop shorting out. I went ahead and caulked the boots in place. Not a problem since.

On my 2nd F250 5.4. 220k on the first, have put about 50k on this one. Not fast, worse in the mountains. 8.5 to 9.5 towing (5k to 10k trailers). Up to 16.5 empty. Usually have 500# to 1k# of work stuff in back.

99 was a 4.10 regular cab 4x4. This one is 373 crew cab. Both 4x4. Wait for one with 410s. Current truck doesn't tow as well and worse on gas with the 373s.
