My roomate is looking into a 2000 f550 single cab 2wd 5 speed with 360k miles. Serivice records are Pages long and less than 20k miles ago, such as injectors, full front suspension replaced, a/c, and other stuff. It has a 20ft (maybe?) flat bed with hydraulic lift and fold down sides. Now my question is $4k a deal? Cranks, drives, and rides great. First 7.3 I have driven with a manual but feels super strong. Jasper engines owned it up til 06 and 340k, then the current owner bought it (concert business) did all of the maintenance and then their work dropped and the truck sat. Body is straight on it. Just a work truck but clean inside. Seems to me, as a auto tech and slight diesel knowledge, this is a good deal. He's looking to start shipping stuff pulling whatever and hauling whatever and found this truck. Can't really find a truck value site to see what it's worth but I know I can rely on my nc4x4 friends.

And I can bum it and haul the TJ around

It's a good deal. For value consider it the same as a F350 except more expensive rear axle. Park the jeep on it rather than using a trailer.

That's what I was thinking. And yeah the bed is huge so I could get some ramps and park the TJ in the back. Anyone else? Anything I need to look for or look into on it before telling him to but it?

Be prepared for a "horse and buggy" stiff ass ride, other than that, he should be all good....

Yeah that's what everything I have read has said. Added up all the service records, they have spent almost 10k in parts and labor on the last 15k miles. Think he's talked into it. Seen a few people aren't getting much more than 350k out of these motors. They good for endless miles when properly maintained or what?

Generally, yes. if it has good service records like that it was probably well maintained. My only thought on buying trucks like that is the people who had to pay for them don't usually drive them meaning %50 of the time some jack ass does.

But for 4k sounds like a good deal. If it blows up you could find a good used 7.3 or swap in a motor for fairly cheap. (cheap for a diesel cheap)

Not so bad with a heavy bed on the back.

4k sounds like a good deal, and 340k by Jasper engines, sounds like it would be alot of highway miles doing delivery? Even better than just a beat around work truck miles.

Should be 6 speed BTW as well, unless the 550s are any different than the 01 450 my brother has.

And my brother recently sold a 99 F350 7.3 6 speed with around 350k on it as well, no issues with it except the dipstick tube was damaged where it entered the oil pan and it would puke oil out there. Dealer wanted to pull the engine out to pull the pan to fix it, a tube of JB weld fixed it for atleast another 5k miles

I just sold my 1999 clean crew cab xlt 550 2wd. 200k on a 7.3L lotsa new parts and it went for 11k...BUT It had a TERRIBLE ride. Mine had a nice new big flatbed and it still rode TERRIBLE. If you get it, buy a LOAD of cinder blocks and just put them on the back

He lost interest in the truck. I think the miles scared him off and he did drive it for a day and noticed the ride quality. His cousin had it for sale, I think, that's why it was so cheap. If someones interested i can get a number.
