I recently just acquired a 1976 Oshkosh m-1500 airport crash truck. Pretty cool vehicle....6x6 with rockwells, cat diesel, and all....Anyone know of a good place for me to try and sell this and what it is worth?

Off-road recovery vehicle.. :D

:nopics:

I'm drooling right now. White Owl in Kinston might know what it is worth. My wife would shit a bonafide moose, but it sounds cool. Trade you for a 79 waggy... :D

Hi Rob,

You might try going direct to Oshkosh for parts. I bet they still
support it or know who sells parts. And they'd be your best bet on
basic info about the truck too.

As far as value, hard to say. Depends on lots of things. Overall
condition of the truck, is it complete with all firefighting
equipment? Rust? Mileage? Tires? Can this be licensed for street
operation?

All factors to consider. This one looks like it's in pretty good
shape. I've seen big crash trucks go for as little as $2000 dollars,
and beyond 10k on the high side. It all depends on what shape it's
in, what it comes with, and whether or not it can be driven on the
street.

Hope that helps.

Rob,
I'm a little " memory challenged " these days but I believe the USAF
classified these as a P4 Crash Fire Rescue truck. I looked at the photo
and it appears identical to the P4 Oshkosh I drove at Kelly AFB (Texas)
and Petersen AFB @ Fort Carson, Colorado. Amazing vehicles. 0 to 60 mph,
full loaded ( aporx. 2,500 gallons of water plus equipment ), crew of 4,
in about 30 seconds. Tail mount 365 hp Caterpillar turbo
diesel,w/selectable auto trans. They are also 6x6 drive train. However,
they are very dangerous at high speed --- They won't turn. Front wheels
will turn but truck tries to continue straight forward. Ask how I know.

The truck has a platform/roof. There is a hatch from the cab interior.
Allows rescue/fire crew to manually aim the foam turret nozzle externally
in case of control failure. can also be used for rescue entry thru
breached fuselage of downed large aircraft by driving up to the aircraft
side.

go to www.aeromusem.org/Exhibits/Crash&FireTrucks/oshkosh.html. The
basic spec's are listed there. I was mistaken on water capacity and
horse power. 30 years since I drove a P 4.
