Heading to Troy on Friday for the first time. I've pulled a good bit of info of this sight for trails and trail maps so I sort of know where I'm going.

We are staying at Arrowhead campground for the weekend. Is it a good idea to leave tow vehicles tents and general camp stuff there or is it going to be vandalized?

I'll be hauling my 85 Dodge Ramcharger on 36 TSL's out there so if you see a turd brown mopar followed by a black YJ with a spring over thats us.

Hope to see some of you out there... maybe you can show us where the good stuff is.

Dave

You will be fine leaving your stuff behind at the campgrounds. And as far as the good stuff goes its pretty simple:

Falls Dam - Mud "Pits"
Rocky Mount Loop - Kodak Rock to pose/play on
Daniel - "Hardest" trail out there.
Slab Pile - Poser rock to show off on
Dutch John - Steep Hill Climb

Some of The Carolina Full Size Jeep Club will be there participating in a work day on Dickie Bell. I am sure we will be fairly easy to spot.

sounds good...

So how are the trails, I've heard its pretty mild but lots of fun. Are the mud pits the sort that swallow trucks hole or is it just thick goo? Are 36" tsl's considered above or below the capable crawl over stuff line on these trails?

Thanks
Dave

The mud pits are essentially water holes with a thin layer of slop on top of the hard bottom. As long as you can touch bottom and get traction you should be fine.

The average tire size to do most trails with little to no issues is 33"-34". 35" and up you are getting into sizes used to tackle the harder stuff like Kodak Rock and Daniel etc. With 36" TSLs you should be more than fine.

Some of my friends and I are going to uwarrie this weekend also. It'll be our first time out there and a first time fourwheeling in a long time for me. Hopefully i'll get to meet some board members there, i'm driving a white explorer. If you see me, i'm the one that looks lost.

I will look for ya!

We had a good time out there this weekend. Not sure if I saw anyone from nc4x4 but said hello to everyone I did see. The trails where alot of fun, and Daniel was a bit more difficult that what I thought from what I read about it. We rode from rocky mtn loop out to the parking lot, and started to ride back up, I made it up the ledge took 4 or 5 tries. I took the right side and kept sliding the left rear into the crevise in the middle. I got up the second "ledge" but went back down to help out with a busted u-joint on a buddy's rig. I think we rode all the "difficult" trails and had a blast... not sure when we'll go again but we will.
