Flaming dodge...

and not in the :gay: way...

Cruising down the 421 to the shop today and I notice smoke over the hill. As I crest the top there's a nice pretty new dodge pulling over to the shoulder as 4 feet of flame are shooting out the bed of his truck.

I knew that his only hope of saving his truck was for him to have an extinguisher or for some random passer by to have an extinguisher in their vehicle. Being a 1/4 mile or so away from the shop I max out the Cummins, unlock the shop door, grab the extinguisher off the wall and haul ass back up the highway. I new it was a long shot but I had to try and help.

As I pass by the volunteer dept. (across the street from the shop) the doors are just opening as two guys are running inside.

I get back to the guy's truck and there's a guy just finishing putting on his fire man gear. I throw him the extinguisher and he goes at it.

At this point there is flaming plastic bedliner dripping down onto the plastic gas tank. He pulls the pin and emptys the extinguisher out on the gas tank and in the bed...

Sweet...it's out...

...until the smoke starts rolling inside the cab...

...oh well, I tried...

I asked him what started it...he said he didn't know...that someone pulled up beside of him and honked the horn and pointed back...then he noticed it...

The most entertaining part was them opening the door on the passanger side after they took the hose to it...gallons of water poured out...

My detective work leads me to believe a cigarette was involved. It burnt up the bedliner in the forward drivers corner of the bed real nice. Ya know...that spot where the wind sucks in everything and it just kinda swirls around right there...everything like straw, mulch, grass, coke bottles and cigarettes...

...although the owner did not say anything about that...and I wouldn't have either had it been me...

Yeah, I'da kept my mouth shut too if that was the case....
 
gotta wonder if that is a new spray in liner....if so a cig would be a very good possibility

OUCH! Cheap shot...

(Assuming you know that I own and operate a Line-X bedliner franchise)

It'd be tough to call which would be more flamable...drop in plastic or spray in...I've burnt both...

This truck, however, had an inferrior drop in plastic liner...
 
Awesome job stepping up and at least attempting to help out. Most people these days don't seem to care about anything, no less take time to help a complete stranger out...

Well Will, I did know you owned a Line-x dealer.

But didnt even think of it when I posted the comment.
Certainly never meant to imply that the truck just left your shop, Im sure you do 1st class work.

Actually it was just a reference to something I saw roughly 1 year ago.

A friend had a new liner sprayed (rhino) and took the truck before the guy said it was "ready" due to being in a hurry.

Came down to our place for a 4th cook out and we shot off fireworks. At some point his truck was used to launch bottle rockets, and the new still tacky liner caught fire and erupted.

We got it put out, and he had the nerve to call the guy in Greenville up and tell him he needed to respray his truck for free.

If I remembeer the story right the guys answer was basically :fuck-you::flipoff2::fuck-you:
