Flex or lockers

I've been pondering my build. Here is my question. Would you choose to be locked front and back or have tons of flex. You can only choose one, tell me why.

Locked front and rear most def. The capabilities with all four tires turning are 10 fold over open diffs. Even with tons of flex your still not getting power to all 4 tires. Granted your tires may be on the ground due to insane flex but only 2 of them will be spinning when under load. You really aren't gonna get anywhere in this situation. Lockers will propel you forward even if you lifting a tire. Power is sent to all 4 regardless of the load or position they are in.

depends on your budget for flex...

lockers would be cheaper on a bronco.... especially if you have radius arms....

I'm 50/50 on this one Having traction is nice but I've been in alot of situations where as long as you can keep your tires on the ground or as close to it as possible you can go just as many if not more places that a rig with stock to no flex suspension and lockers can. Doesn't matter how flexy or traction available you are as the driver style will always be a factor.

Lockers. Flex is great, but the moment you start flexing, you start pulling weight off that tire, and that will be the one that spins. Always.

lockers without a doubt

Its easier to go over a rock, then it is to push it.

What came first? The egg or the chicken?

In order to go over you must have two things... clearance and traction.

(me... cheapo locker up front and go with the lift - then upgrade the locker when funds are up again)

lockers...

unless you're building an RTI champ...:)

I've watched my rig fail miserably on RTI ramps...somewhere between 500-600 (best I recall) on the last one...it's a whole different story on the trial, with a low COG, fairly flat underbelly, ARB's front and rear...

anybody that's seen mine on the trail will agree...I may lift a tire, but it's not gonna be stopped due to lack of flex...

Nick, I assume you're keeping the 44/9" combo? I'd just get some lockers off someone on FSB who's going to 1-ton gear and call it a day. Since you're solid up front, you'll have an easier time tuning the suspension than us TTB'ers. But that can wait. I'd get traction first.

Well, open diffs will help keep you from rolling off the RTI ramp.. I forgot about that important item.. ;)

Spool the rear, lunchbox locker up front and you'll be good to go. Flex is overrated (but fun). You can easily extend or wrist the rad arms though...

lockers...

Flex looks cool, and it is a champion aty the extremes, but you will never need it without the lockers IMHO
