I have a '98 jeep grand cherokee limited 5.2 liter all wheel drive stock.
I want to instal rocks & 49's. What are some of the things I need to be aware of before I start this project?
I've heard some like speed sensors will be a problem, ABS will be a problem, the amount of lift and drive line angles.
Is this a bad rig to build, should I find and build a different rig?
What are your thoughts

It could be done, and would be pretty cool when done. With that said, if you have to ask these type of questions, I would think you aren't ready for this project. If you don't do it well, you are going to screw up a decent rig and end up with a useless project.

sorry, I didn't mention that part. I'm not doing the work myself, I would have it done by a local shop. I'm just asking for things to look out for before it's started. I know it doesn't have a frame, but I wanted something with an enclosed cab, something comfortable. I already have a open buggy, when it's cold I'm cold when it's hot, I'm hot.
I know this doesn't sound very TIM ALLEN like, but it's what I want.

There are actually vehicles like that that aren't unibody design. I'd be interested to see how the shop that does this project tackles that issue.

Once you go Rocks, the ABS wont be an issue, it will be gone
Speed sensors and computer issues are the last of your worries.

Step 1 will involve a Blazer, Bronco, or Waggy frame....

Well its do-able, im sure it would be a lot of work and custom fabrication going on but heres a grand chero on 52's and rockwells.

Its not a bad rig to build, just a tough one. The bracings of the unibody would be very extensive and expensive to get done correctly. ABS would be gone which is a good thing. You can't honestly expect a truck with 49s to have a highly accurate speedo though. It would be an interesting build but a fun one I would think.

did my post get deleted or did i forget to press reply..?

it would be very tough, very expensive. i'd honestly build rocks and 49's into something else even if i am biased toward grand cherokees...but,

i say try it, but look at the link to pirate that awspence posted first.

I agree. It will be very tough and very expensive and you will have to have very good fab skills or it will get rediculously expensive....there will be no abs, shouldn't worry about a speed sensor becuase I doubt that will be a very streetable rig, but it would also be very cool seing as alot of people don't put rocks under ZJ's. Driveline angles shouldn't be too bad because I wouldn't think you would need over 8" of lift (there will be tons and tons of cutting the body of the ZJ up...no really getting around that with 49's). Even though I am a very big ZJ fan and am biulding one myself...I think there are many better platforms for something with rockwells and 49's...just my .02
