ford axle questions

Here is a pic of the axle i believe to be a dana 44, came out of a late 70's ford fullsize (so I was told). I am trying to determine that its really a dana 44 and what this bracket is... here's some pics, any input would help.

Looks like a Ford 44 front to me.....the wedges are for the radius arms.

Easiest way to tell is...get a wrench on the diff cover. 44's had 1/2" bolts, 60's had 9/16" bolts.

yeah pretty sure it isn't a 60. The wedges are cast into the axle tube right? can I cut and grind them down and weld on spring perches?

The pictures really suck, but that looks like a 78-79 housing, meaning no you can't grind the RA wedges off.

Can't cut off the wedges, but I've seen more than one with leaf springs. Just weld them on to the tube.

Some people modify a factory Ford arm to mount to their frame and run the radius arm suspension.
