I've come across mostly mid 90s with 7.3s very reasonably priced. Mileage ranges from 160k to 280k. Anything I should be on the look-out for? Anything I should avoid? Problem years? Preferred trannies? Bus, truck, van? etc. Or should I just hold out for a cummins? Any and all info greatly appreciated.

I picked up a 2000 Ford Excursion 7.3L last January. It had 117K miles on it...so far so good. The only thing that I have noticed is that it does not have the immediate take off power as the do the newer 6.0L...but they also don't melt like the newer ones either.

good 2 hear. also, i'm looking at 1 w/ a svo kit. thoughts? pretty cheap to run- about $1/ gallon. i know people run 'em in benzes all the time but i've heard different things about clogged injectors, frequent filter replacements, and leaky seals, etc. anybody have any long-term experience with these systems in a truck?

I had a f-350 that ran on veg oil for about 8 months, it ran pretty good, the key is to put the switch over valve right in front of the lift pump and to loop the return line. If you are looking at a truck to buy with one on it, find out how they filter the oil and how hot the oil gets before the IP, it could save ya lots in the future. I have a different f-350 now with a 7.3 that I will be converting in a couple of weeks.

I have been running Veg on my 99.5 7.3 for the last 25k or so with no problems. I would reccomend tieing in to the fuel system so it runs thru the lift pump. Mine is tied in right before along the frame rail.

I would look for a truck with maintenence records, not modified at all and then upgrade the stuff yourself.

I have a 7.3 and have not complaints. I would also recommend not buying one that has modifications. I know of several 7.3 with 500,000 miles plus still running strong.
