My Christmas present to my dad is I got him a 4 barrel intake manifold for his 390 thats in his 66 F100 he restored and I'm giving Him one of my new carbs I have laying around and putting it on for him.

Anyway any suggestions on what brand of gaskets I should get for the manifold and valve covers?

Also someone told me once that the style engine FE has a common place they leak at the intake manifold that I should put extra rtv on but I cant remember where that was, anyone know?

And since they don't have haynes manuals for that old of a truck anyone know what I should torque the manifold bolts to, and if theres a certain pattern in which I should do it?

Thanks

Use RTV for the front and rear under the manifold and throw the gaskets away. The 2 rubber S looking pieces suck. That's the common leak. Have yet to see a stock build last and I've seen MANY. Just squirt about 3/8 inch bead flowing slightly up the sides to meet the side intake gasket(no more) going in about 3 layers and let it squish out a tad when you torque the intake down.
Steve Grist has the best and the only book that I know of for these motors. I can confirm the torque pounds and pattern if interested but might take some time. I've seem to have become the world's busiest man lately...
If you ever need any FE or even Ford truck parts or advice, feel free to hit me up. I have around 12 trucks last time I counted. I buy, sell, restore, modify Ford Trucks (63-79) for a hobbie. I also know several people in your neck of the woods that are highly educated in Ford trucks.
