Ok. I'm building a HP44 ford front axle from a '74 Ford F-150. The top of my ball joints are 53" from ball joint to ball joint. The bottom ball joints are 55" apart.

I am going to run a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern using ford hubs and rotors with chevy calipers, spindles and caliper brackets.

If I want a WMS of 63" how much will I need to cut the axle down? Anyone running this setup? If so, what is your width from the balljoint to your WMS on either side (width from balljoint out on either side)? How wide will this axle run without cutting it down? I am running a for 8.8 in the rear and I was going to run a 1.5" wheel spacer in the rear.

That should help me figure out this question. Thanks for all your help.

Housings from 73 to 79 were all the same WMS. I did a google search and found that is approximately 65". I would not cut it down. I doubt you will notice a difference. If you think you will notice a difference then add 1" wheel spacers to the rear. If you are concerned your tires will stick out too far then get rims with 1" more backspacing.

The 8.8 should already be close to 65" wide.

Why mix in Chevy brake parts? Seems like a lot of work for... no difference? I had five lug Ford calipers and eight lug Chevy calipers on the same rig, couldn't tell a difference between them.

My 8.8 is out of a 97 ford explorer. it is 60" wide. I have a set of 1.5" wheel spacers on order so I will be at 63".

The chevy parts are to run the chevy flattop knuckles for high steer since i'm going SOA. I had to run chevy caliper brackets, calipers, spindles and out axle shafts. the ford rotor and hub assembly is to run the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern instead of 6 on 5.5 like the chevys run.

i only want to do this once and it be right. i am having a pro fabricator shave it down using a jig so it's done right. i was wanting to cut only the long side so i'll only have 1 custom cut shaft. i also needed to cut the long side a couple inches so it would offset the pinion so the center section would shift enough for the ubolts to clear the center housing.
