frame crack around steering box

i have a 78 k10 chevy and the frame is starting gto crack around the steering box i was told these trucks were bad about this is there any solution to the problem or should i just weld the cracks up and see if it holds

They make a frame brace kit available from any number of manufacturers.

Be careful not to overheat the box while doing this as you will melt the seals if you do.

I have welded 1/4" plates around that area with success before. Like SkyHi said, watch the heat.

I would just unbolt the box from the frame. I think that a with a Super Lift repair kit you have to take it off any way.

if you can locate the end of the crack,be sure to drill a hole threw the frame before welding the crack,this will stop the crack from going any further.
